Long-time team play-by-play announcer Dan Rusanowsky will continue in that role for his 30thseason, along with analysts Scott Hannan and Mark Smith. Randy Hahn, Bret Hedican, and Ted Ramey will also continue to be contributors to the network.
San Jose had partnered with KFOX as their flagship radio partner since the 2000-2001 NHL season. The station, which lacks the signal strength to reach certain parts of the Bay Area, wasn’t meeting the needs of the franchise as it tries to expand its reach.
“This certainly was not a situation where we were dissatisfied with KFOX. They’ve been a great partner to us,” said Scott Emmert, the Sharks’ vice president of communications. “But the reality is even the strongest signals have their limitations. There are only so many 50,000-watt flame throwers out there. With a lot of the competition that we have in the market with other professional teams, the reality is that some of those options are limited.”
Emmert added that it is possible the team will have some future broadcasts on terrestrial radio but, for the time being, they want to keep all of their audio broadcasting in one spot.
“We fully understand that there are lots of people out there who are attached to terrestrial radio and that this is going to take a little bit of time, it’s going to take a little bit of education on our part,” said Emmert.
Per a statement by Brian A. Figula, director of programming operations at KFOX, “All of us at 98.5 KFOX and Bonneville are big fans and supporters of the Sharks and value our history together. We are presently working with them in ways that continue what is a long term partnership and that are responsive to the significant changes in the market.”
While the team did experiment with some digital-only audio broadcasts, the initial reaction from some fans regarding the change has been less than universally appreciated.
This sucks. Stop changing things that don’t need to be changed. We already had access to this on the app for a while now. And trying to find where to listen on the app has been torturous as it’s now in an easily found spot. This was not a good move.

Many fans noted that the Oakland A’s also rolled out a similar web-only audio broadcast format last year and blowback from fans led them to return to AM radio during the season.
Like a couple others said, the Oakland A's tried this and it did not go well with their fanbase. Older listeners and those who commute a lot will want KFOX to remain an option for sure.

But there were also some positive reactions to the news from fans who are excited for the ability to listen to Sharks games beyond the reach of the radio stations.
I could never get a game on the radio anyway, in the bay area or in Sacramento area. They were always on low quality stations that I was unable to receive. And I could sometimes get it on satellite radio, if I was fortunate. Now I will be able to listen anytime. Thank you.

The Colorado Avalanche (11-6-1) play the first game of a two-game set on the road against the San Jose Sharks (7-9-2) Monday with a 10:30 p.m. ET puck drop at SAP Center. Below, we analyze the Avalanche-Sharks odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.
Avalanche at Sharks: Odds, spread and lines
Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:45 p.m. ET.
Money line: Avalanche -225 (bet $225 to win $100) Sharks +190 (bet $100 to win $190)Against the spread/ATS: Avalanche -1.5 (+120) Sharks +1.5 (-145)Over/Under: 6 (O: -115 U: -105)Avalanche at Sharks: Projected starting goalies
Philipp Grubauer (10-5-0, 2.01 GAA, .923 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Martin Jones (6-5-1, 3.85 GAA, .877 SV%)
Grubauer bounced back from a rough loss to the Minnesota Wild last week with a sharp performance against the Arizona Coyotes Saturday. He stopped 23 of 25 shots, and he has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 13 of his past 14 outings. He stopped all 21 shots he faced for one of his two shutouts in his last outing against the Sharks.
Jones has won just once in his past five outings, and he was also roughed up by Minnesota last week. The Wild hung four goals on him with just 20 shots, leading to a second-period pulling on home ice. He has allowed 3 or more goals in eight of his past nine appearances.

Avalanche at Sharks: Odds, lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Avalanche 5, Sharks 2
Money line (ML)
The Avalanche (-225) are just too expensive on the road, as you have to lay more than two times your potential return. Look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread (ATS)
The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+120) are a much better value at this price, as they have a high-octane offense and Jones has been terribly leaky in the crease this season.
While the Avalanche are a dismal 4-23 in their past 27 trips to San Jose, they are 4-0 in their previous four meetings overall in this series. The favorite is also 41-13 in the past 54 meetings.
Over/Under (O/U)
The OVER 6 (-115) is a good bet, as the Colorado offense has the potential to take care of this total on its own when.
The Over is also 16-6-2 in the past 24 meetings in this series, including 11-2-1 in the past 14 battles in San Jose. The Over is also 11-5 in San Jose’s past 16 as an underdog.
